Due to a ruling in 2004, the Barnes collection will be moved from its historic location in Merion, Pennsylvania, to a new purpose-built building in Philadelphia sometime in 2012.  My feelings on the matter would merit a post (or two) on its own, but suffice to say that I do not approve of the relocation.

Fortunately for those of us who care about such things, the New York Times has produced a virtual tour of some of the galleries at the Merion location as it was before the closure.  It was a lifelong dream of mine to see Mr. Barnes’ eclectic museum in Merion, and it is a small comfort to me that the New York Times has given us an opportunity to remember how it was, and how it ought to have always been.
